Ukraine War -Rusia Dergest: Ukrainian forces land in Russia, while Putin faces “domestic discontent”

We’ll be back soon with more updates on the war in Ukraine.

Before we go, here is a rundown of what has been happening over the last 24 hours:

The Ukraine Army has photographs of what it says shows that Russian drones (or unmanned aerial vehicles, to use the technical term) are invalid when they fly to goals in Ukraine.

Late last month, it was reported that British forces had put in place contingency plans to board and seize Russian ships off the UK coast if there is evidence they are damaging undersea pipelines.

Moscow has responded to the suggestion – saying it would be forced to take action.

“If this happened hypothetically, it would be a violation of the UN conference [of the UN] [on the law of the sea],” said the ambassador to the United Kingdom, Andrey Kelin, in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel.

“Naturally, we have the right to defend our interests by legal means. But it is unlikely to come to that, as our response will be inevitable, fully lawful, and justified.”

The Russian diplomat described the statements about the prospective detention of Russian ships in question as “a safe preparation for the British Navy, a small, to a type of concrete actions. “

“But, obviously, this will require a political decision,” he added.

UK Defence Secretary John Healy said last month he had ordered the Royal Navy to intercept Russia’s Yantar spy ship in the English Channel in November.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense Intelligence said the speed of territorial gains made through Moscow’s forces in Ukraine has slowed in recent weeks.

“In January 2025, Russia’s territorial advances in Ukraine slowed as they took approximately 320sqkm, compared with approximately 400sqkm in December 2024,” the update said.

“Russia seized control of the stronghold of Velyka Novosilka, but advances along most of the frontline have been relatively minor.”

The officials added that North Korean units fighting alongside Russian forces had been “temporarily withdrawn” from the front lines, “likely to rest and refit before redeploying”.

“This is basically due to the heavy losses suffered attacks on Ukrainian positions,” they said.

These images show Ukrainian forces conducting a live fire exercise with tank crews, at an undisclosed location in the country.

One of the maxims and complaints is the respective point of contributions to NATO through its various members.

The leader has lamented the fact that many countries pay less to the alliance than in Washington, although the most recent figures published through the NATO show in Germany coincided with US funds.

However, against the backdrop of Trump’s complaints, NATO secretary general Mark Rutte said today that defence spending by the group’s European members and Canada rose by 20% in 2024, compared to the previous year,

Many members are ahead of the curve who have taken Trump’s message on board and already have increased military spending, especially since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine via Russia.

NATO has said that the strengthening of 20% of non -American members of the alliance their general defense expenses to more than $ 485 billion (390 billion sterling pounds).

“I can’t wait to welcome the attached ministers in NATO next week, where we will communicate about making an investment increasing .

“We’ve crunched the numbers. They’re going up. In fact, spending by Europe and Canada is up 20% in 2024, bringing the total additional investment in recent years from $640bn to $700bn.”

The Russian forces have taken the city of Tretsk in eastern Ukraine, said Russia’s Ministry of Defense.

It was not imaginable to determine independently the battlefield report.

A main fight for the city began in June last year, with sour struggles since then.

Analysts suggest it is of strategic value as an important logistics hub.

Russia calls the city through its Soviet-era call of Dzerzhynsk and says the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine is now a component of Russia, a statement Kyiv rejects.

Russian forces also continue pushing toward Pokrovsk, a key logistics hub roughly 50km southwest of Toretsk, and towards Chasiv Yar to the north.

A series of maps show those existing at other times in the lines of the Ukraine-Russian front.

Ukraine said that it believes that the International Criminal Court’s paintings regarding Russian war crimes will continue despite the sanctions imposed on the organization through Donald Trump.

Trump Legal Economic and Sancions aimed at other people who paint in CPI surveys in American citizens or American allies such as Israel.

The ICC is a permanent court that can prosecute war crimes, crimes opposed to humanity, genocide and crimes of aggression opposed to the territory of member states or through their nationals.

And the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Heorhii Tykhyi, said in kyiv information: “We are convinced that the ICC will continue to satisfy purposes in the case of Ukraine, in Russians of specific war criminals.

“We know that the United States and the ICC have a long history. “

Now we return to an assembly between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

Moscow said this morning that there had been many erroneous reports about U. S. degrees to end the Ukraine War, and called for patience.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov questioned this morning in a report that Trump’s envoy for Russia and Ukraine Kellogg sought to arrange a truce even before talking about a Peacearray colony

“We have nothing to add,” he said.

“There is nothing really extensive in this account; we just want to be patient. “

Trump and Putin said they wanted them to meet in person.

“Russia is open to negotiations. In any case, a settlement should come as a result of negotiations,” Peskov said.

As we indicated previously on the day, CNN in the past quoted Peskov saying that there had been no initial contacts between the two leaders to be located if said assembly was mandatory or where and how can take a position
