Washington (CNN) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday redirected an attack with President Donald trump on Twitter, turning a photo he tweeted of her during a controversial White house meeting with the caption ” Nervous Nancy unhinged.!”It has a Twitter cover.

An image released by the White house shows a California Democrat standing with a finger pointing at a seated trump during a meeting in which democratic leaders in Congress said the President had a ” crisis.”

Pelosi’s Deputy chief of staff drew Hammill noted the changes on Twitter, writing, ” Thanks for the new @realDonaldTrump cover photo!»

Reporters were not allowed into Wednesday’s meeting, and CNN does not usually report photos released by the White house because they cannot be independently verified as an accurate depiction of events in the hall. Pelosi, in restoring and promoting the image that trump had in mind as an attack, however, marks a notable – and newsworthy-exception.

Democratic leaders were at the White house for a meeting on Syria that took place shortly after the House overwhelmingly passed a resolution opposing the trump administration’s withdrawal.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, senior congressional Democrats said they had left. Senate democratic leader Chuck Schumer of new York said they did so when trump “started calling speaker Pelosi a third-tier politician.”

“He was offensive, especially to the speaker. She totally kept it quiet, but he called her a third-tier politician, ” Schumer said. “It was not a dialogue, it was a kind of diatribe. Unpleasant diatribe, not focused on the facts.”

Pelosi later said trump actually called her a ” third-class politician.”

White house press Secretary Stephanie Grisham characterized the meeting differently, saying in a statement that Pelosi “wasn’t going to listen” and that trump was “measured” and “determined.”

Later Wednesday, the President tweeted a series of photos from the meeting along with insults. In one tweet, he called Pelosi “a very sick man!»

Tensions between Democrats in Congress and the White house have escalated sharply in recent weeks as Democrats push for a sit-down impeachment investigation into trump and his contacts with Ukraine. Lawmakers conducted a steady stream of closed-door deposition this week as part of the investigation.
