ThinkProgress, an influential news site that rose to prominence in the shadow of the Bush administration and helped define progressivism in the Obama years, is closing.
The outlet, which served as an editorially independent project of the Democratic party think tank the Center for American progress (CAP), will cease ongoing operations on Friday and be transformed into a site where CAP scientists can post.
“Given that we have not been able to find a new publisher, we have no real choice but to fold the ThinkProgress website back into the CAP of a wider online presence with a focus on analyzing policy, policy and news events through the prism of existing CAP and cap actions by staff experts,” Nayak said. “Conversations about how to do this are just beginning, but we will seek to reinvent it as another platform for progressive change.”
In early may, sources told The Daily Beast that the ThinkProgress writers ‘ Union and the story’s author were concerned about how ENDA handled the ordeal, including her making edits without the author’s initial permission. ENDA said she publicly and privately apologized for not letting the author know before doing so, although she felt it was justified.
