These Cryptic Scarlett Johansson Comments may Hint at the future of Black widow
Natasha Romanoffs Marvel Cinematic universe journey ended earlier this year in Avengers: Endgame, but that doesn’t mean time with her is over just yet. The following year, Black widow wound back the clock back to the period between Captain America: Civil war and Avengers: infinity War, when she was on her own adventure and couldn’t rely on her fellow Avengers for help. But what’s in store for the character after this solo movie, if anything?
Officially speaking, that remains to be seen, but Scarlett Johansson promises that Black widow will deliver closure for the heroine, perhaps indicating that it will be Johanssons final exit as Natasha. According to her:
I don’t know if I can take it anymore without any closure. It’s too exhausting.
At this point, Scarlett Johansson has appeared as Black widow in eight films, starting with Iron Man 2 in 2010 and ending with Avengers: Endgame, the last of which saw Natasha Romanoff sacrifice her life so that Clint Barton can get the soul Stone on Wormier. Unlike Tony stark, though, she didn’t get a memorial at the end of the endgame, which co-Director Joe Russo explained to her with another movie coming out.
So while we know how Black widow’s journey concludes, her film next year will shed more light on her background and show more of her espionage skills and experience. Whatever your feelings may be about Black widow time at the MCU in General, for years many fans have wanted to see her get her own movie to Shine for years and now their desire has been granted.
However, there Is no guarantee that Black widow will get a sequel, and what Scarlett Johansson told ET could portend is that it serves as her final MCU appearance. After all, There’s only so many more places Natasha Romanoff can go from where the movie will leave her, and again, we know her final destination. Still, even assuming Johansson leaves the MCU, that doesn’t mean Black widow can’t spawn her own movie series.
As longtime Marvel fans know, Natasha Romanoff isn’t the only character to go Black widow, and the film introduces two others who hold the mantle at the MCU: Florence Pewse Elena Belova and Rachel Weisz Melina. Given that Elena is the second most popular Black widow in the pages of Marvel Comics, I wouldn’t be surprised if the film Black widow is currently being used as a platform for Pughs version of the character to be the star of sequels.
Were far from figuring out what the future Black widow side of the MCU looks like after this movie drops, but regardless, Scarlett Johansson made it clear that she enjoyed her time on the standalone tale, which is currently in post-production. As she put it:
I like this. I’m so proud of what we did. Now we get a sprinkle of magic all over it. Get ready for the audience.
Along with the previously mentioned actors, Black widow also stars David Harbor as Red Guardian and O-T Fagbenle as Mason, as well as Robert Downey Jr. and William hurt, reprising Tony stark and Thaddeus thunderbolt Ross, respectively, though downis ‘ appearance is through unused footage from Captain America: Civil war. Ray Winston and Olivier Ritchers have been cast in undisclosed roles, and it remains to be determined the actor portrays Taskmaster.
