WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald trump said on Wednesday he would likely not sign a trade agreement with China until he meets with Chinese President XI Jinping at the upcoming APEC forum in Chile.

Trump, speaking to reporters at the White house, said a partial trade deal announced last week is in the process of being finalized.

“This is being documented,” he said.

Trump, XI and other heads of state are expected to attend the Asia-Pacific economic cooperation (APEC) Forum, which will be held in Santiago from November 11 to 17.

Last week, trump and Chinese Vice Premier Liu he announced the first phase of a deal to end the trade war between Beijing and Washington, but gave no details.

China wants more talks as soon as late October to work out the details of a” phase one ” Pact, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday that quoted people familiar with the matter.
