A White House liaison with the Justice Department reportedly asked a branch attorney for damaging data about E. Jean Carroll, who is suing President Donald Trump for defamation after assaulting her in reaction to his accusation that he raped her in the 1990s.
The Guardian reported that the matter, Heidi Stirrup, had asked the anonymous attorney for information about Carroll that could be transmitted to Trump’s personal legal team within a time after a ruling was issued on the rejection of the Justice Department’s offer to serve as Trump’s defense in the lawsuit. Stirrup also reportedly sought evidence that Carroll was conspiring with Democrats to make false accusations against Trump.
The lawyer told the Guardian that they had rejected Stirrup’s request “in the most powerful terms imaginable. “
The White House assistant was banished from the construction of the Justice Department in December after seeking to download data on alleged voter fraud and other Trump family problems.
The Justice Department and the White House responded to the TPM’s request for comment.
Carroll and his lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, said in a set that while stirring’s betting report is true, “it is additional evidence of the many tactics in which Donald Trump abused Justice Department lawyers, especially in our case.
