Read hilarious answers after Wallsend ‘glamping site’ plans unveiled

Plans to build a luxury camp site in Wallsend have been met with mixed reactions from readers.

Darron Clayton is behind plans to install three glamping pods in a field South of sunrise farm, on kings road in North Wallsend.

According to the project and access statement submitted to the Council, the three timber structures will promote tourism in the area and create new jobs.

One wrote: “Glamping in Wallsend? Give It Back. I’m from Wallsend and I won’t gloat there if you pay me.

“The rising sun is a nature reserve, why spoil it. Probably only half the decent thing about Wallsend and that’s something to say.”

Another said “Suite” and “Walls” in the same sentence. I never thought I’d see the day .”

“Sleeping in the bin the day before collection will be glamping in Wallsend,” another said.

But Gav Stephenson, 29, from Newcastle, was supportive of the plans, saying it would be good for those visiting the region on a shoe-string budget.

“I’ve been to similar sites near London and Amsterdam as they serve as cheap alternative holidays for people who can’t afford a hotel but who plan to visit the city,” he said.

“Wallsend has direct links to Newcastle, Kildare forest, Hadrian’s wall and the Scottish borders most people who will use the site will do so for these reasons.

“The people of Wallsend will benefit from a bit of tourism as people using the sites will shop on site for food and using local pubs or restaurants.”

This was backed up by another Facebook user who pointed out the wealth of natural beauty spots a stone’s throw from Wallsend.

He wrote: “It’s not like we have Northumberland, Hadrian’s wall and Yorkshire on our doorstep.”

He added: “Glamping and nature reserves seem to go together, especially if cars are stored outside the actual site. Customers will decide if it will work.”

The planning document claims that the hexagonal huts will “fit into the overall village forest theme” of the surrounding countryside.

She added that only two buildings will be used for camping and the other is the reception building.

North Tyneside Council will decide whether to give permission for the scheme by January.
