Quibi ink deal with T-Mobile ahead of launch

Is there a huge demand for 10-minute movies and shows that can only be viewed over the phone? Hey, this is Katzenberg, and the city is littered with the bodies of those who bet against him. The former DreamWorks Animation head, 68, and former eBay CEO Whitman, 63, have amassed $ 1 billion in startup money and lured some of the biggest names in the business (Steven Spielberg, Chrissy Teigen and Kevin HART) to make content for the service’s launch in April.

Quibi has found a wireless partner for its spring 2020 launch.

The mobile video startup highlighted a deal with T-Mobile that would make the Washington-based company an exclusive telecommunications partner. As part of the agreement, Quibi will be offered to T-Mobile’s more than 83 million customers.

“Quibi will deliver premium video content to Millennials on a technology platform that is built exclusively for mobile devices, so that a telecommunications partner like T-Mobile, with their broad coverage today and impressive 5G roadmap, is the perfect fit,” Quibi CEO Meg Whitman said in a statement.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere added: “of Course, Quiby and T-Mobile work together – we are two mobile-centric disruptors committed to challenging the status quo and providing customers with an incredible experience. Quibi is completely reimagining video content for the mobile world, and that’s what makes this such a strong partnership.”

Founded by Jeffrey Katzenberg, Quibi will begin in April 2020 as a mobile-only product for original short-form video programming. The company, which greenlit shows from Antoine Fuqua, Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro and others, will offer its service for $5 with ads and $8 without.

In addition to T-Mobile, Quibi has struck deals with several major brands, including Google, Procter
