Cairo, October 16 (IANS) Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the United Arab Emirates as part of a tour of the Middle East.

During the meeting at the presidential Palace in Abu Dhabi, Putin and al Nahyan also discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries and strategic cooperation, state news Agency WAM reported.

Al Nahyan expressed hope that Putin’s visit will help achieve the goals of strengthening ties in various fields between the two countries.

The two countries also signed agreements worth $1.4 billion, reports TASS.

“Investments should be made in petrochemicals, transport, medicine. New deals were closed today. These are projects worth about $ 1.4 billion, and they cover a wide range of industries, ” the Russian leader said at a meeting with business representatives of the two countries.

He added that industrial cooperation between Russia and the UAE is gaining momentum.

“We welcome the entry of our friends from Emirates into the authorized capital of the company, the manufacturer of Executive cars Aurus.

“We do and will do everything necessary to ensure that investors, including those from the United Arab Emirates, feel comfortable in our market,” he continued.

Putin went on a tour of the Middle East that included Saudi Arabia, where he witnessed the signing of 20 memorandums of understanding that covered sectors such as mining, aviation, government and Commerce.

The Russian President, who visited the UAE in 2007, met with al Nahyan 10 times and had numerous phone calls with him, the last of which was in June this year.

Both officials signed a Declaration on strategic partnership during al Nahyan’s visit to Moscow in June 2018.

According to the Kremlin, during the conversation, both countries will learn about economic and trade cooperation.

The UAE is a popular tourist destination among Russians, thanks in part to visa benefits.

Sharjah, which opened in 2011, has one Russian Orthodox Church in the UAE.
