Prime Minister modi praises ‘scenic’ Mamallapuram after his day with XI Jinping

After showing Chinese President XI Jinping around Tamil Nadu in Mamallapuram, Prime Minister Narendra modi on Friday took to Twitter to praise the various historical landmarks of the studded seaside town and post panoramic photos of the two heads of state taking in the sights.

In one of the tweets he described Mamallapuram as “one of the most beautiful places” in the country. “It is connected with Commerce, spirituality and is now a popular center of tourism. I am glad that President XI Jinping and I are spending time in this picturesque place, which is also a heritage site of @UNESCO, ” he said.

Accompanying the tweet were photos of Prime Minister modi wearing a white half-sleeve shirt, veshti and angavasutram holding hands with President XI in a glowing demonstration of diplomatic bonhomie.

In another tweet, the Prime Minister called the temple on the Bay of Bengal a Testament to the glory of ancient India. “Overlooking the Bay of Bengal is a majestic temple on the shore. One of the most iconic landmarks, The temple on the shore illustrates the grandeur and grandeur of Indian culture, ” it said.

Pancha Ratas, a complex of monuments on the Coromandel coast, also found mention in Prime Minister modi’s tweets. “President XI Jinping and I saw the wonderful Pancha Ratas. Five Rathausgasse are examples of monolithic architecture rocks. The rathas in this monument include Dharmaraja Ratha, Bhima Ratha, Arjuna Ratha, Nakula Sahadeva Ratha and Draupadi Ratha, ” he wrote on Twitter.

Each of the five monuments of the complex resembles a chariot carved over a special long monolith of granite. They are named after the five pandayas and draupadis, characters from the Hindu epic Mahabharata.

Prime Minister modi has called Arjuna’s penance, a historical sculpture also known as the descent of the Ganges, one of the “greatest” things to see in Mamallapuram. “It embodies aspects of the Mahabharata. Arjuna’s “Repentance” also features Pallava’s finest works of art, especially depictions of nature and animals, ” he tweeted.

Carved in the seventh century, Arjuna’s penance recounts how Arjuna, one of the five brothers of the Pandava, committed severe austerity measures to obtain the arms of Lord Shiva.

On Saturday morning, the two leaders will hold an informal meeting at Taj Fisherman’s Cove Resort and Spa, followed by delegation-level talks. Prime Minister modi will also host President XI for dinner and lunch characterized by local cuisine.
