“Phony.” Donald trump has mocked the us Constitution’s “emoluments” clause banning foreign gifts

The us President backed away from a plan announced just days earlier to hold a G7 summit at a Trump-owned resort in Miami. Critics lashed out, saying the President sought to enrich himself by hosting foreign leaders.

President Donald trump on Saturday abandoned plans to hold the next G7 summit at his own Golf resort in Florida after coming under fire from Democrats as well as Republicans and other critics who said he sought to personally benefit from his presidency.

Acting White house chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced Thursday that the President plans to hold a summit of industrialized leaders at his Doral Golf club in Miami because it was the “best place” among a dozen places in the United States considered for next year’s June 10-12 gathering.

“I thought I was doing something very good for our country by using Trump National Doral, in Miami, to host the g-7 leaders. It’s big, great, on hundreds of acres, next to the MIAMI INTERNATIONAL Aportion, has huge ballrooms

“Will be created better than other alternatives. I have announced that I would be willing to make it at NO PROFIT or, if legally permissible, at zero COST in the US. But, as usual, hostile media

“So based on both media

Critics said holding the G7 at trump’s own Golf resort would violate the Constitution’s emoluments clause, which prevents government officials from receiving salaries, fees or profits from foreign and domestic governments without congressional approval.

The democratic-controlled House of representatives on Friday introduced a bill to block trump’s plan, which would likely face an uphill battle in the Republican-controlled Senate.

In addition to the impeachment investigation, trump also faces a number of congressional investigations into his finances and potential conflicts of interest stemming from his real estate business, which he still owns.

The President said he is not associated with the activities of the Trump Organization and that his sons run the business.

Trump has repeatedly accused the family of former Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden of profiting from public service because of hunter Biden’s business activities in Ukraine when his father was Vice President. The President faces an investigation over allegations of pressure on the President of Ukraine to investigate his political rival.

Next year, the US will arrive at the rotating presidency of the G7, which includes the US, Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Canada and Japan.
