Paul Dano joined the cast of “Batman” as the indoor crusaders archnemesis Riddler.

The Emmy nominee’s new role was announced Thursday by Warner Bros. according to The Hollywood Reporter.

He joins Zo Kravitz, who will play Catwoman / Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon of Gotham city P. D., and Robert Pattinson as night criminal Batman, aka Bruce Wayne. Matt Reeves is directing the film.

“The version Given the character will be called Edward Nashton, the man who in the comics goes by Edward Nygma” and eventually adopts the villainous Riddler persona, in THR.

Riddler previously had some big names on screens big and small. Among them: Jim Carrey, Frank Gorshin and John Astin.

Pattinson, perhaps best known as the Moody young vampire in the “Twilight” films, takes on Ben Affleck as DC’s Dark knight.

Affleck has announced he will be stepping away from the role of Batman after starring in ? Batman V Superman: dawn of justice? and also? justice League.? Each film received a negative reaction from both critics and comic book fans. It was reportedly used to direct “Batman” but passed on to Reeves in 2017.

The 33-year-old Pattinson’s acceptance of the role makes him the second youngest Bruce Wayne in film history, behind Christian bale, who was 31 when he took over the character in the 2005 hit? Batman begins.? Bale responded to the role in two hugely popular sequels.

Filming is scheduled to begin later this year or early 2020. “Batman” will be released in theaters in June 2021.
