NH adult positive for Jamestown Canyon mosquito virus-WCVB Boston

The new Hampshire Department of health and human services says an adult from Laconia has tested positive for a mosquito-borne virus.

The Department said Wednesday the adult tested positive for the Jamestown Canyon virus transmitted by infected mosquitoes.

This is the second case to be identified in the state this year; it was identified in Kingston food in August.

Reports of Jamestown Canyon virus in humans are rare, but have increased over the past few years. This is the eighth case in new Hampshire since the state first reported the disease in 2013.

The Department says most of the illnesses caused by the virus were mild, but moderate to moderate Central nervous system involvement has been reported, including fatal infections.
