HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – Broward families in need are getting a much-needed boost thanks to a mobile school pantry.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Hallandale Beach, Broward Teachers Union along with mobile school pantry unveiled their high-tech refrigerated bus.
It is equipped with its own aisles full of fruits, vegetables and canned food for low-income families.
“They need food to study with their teacher, to listen to her, to understand… and want to learn. So full of tummies fuel minds, ” said zaina Zain-Woolland, founder of the mobile pantry school.
“We say when kids have the right tools, and when they eat foods that are healthy for them, it sets them up for life.”
Teachers from the Union told CBS4 they hope to give families a sense that their community cares about them.
