SAN ANTONIO, October 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ — People lined up outside the door at two San Antonio stores wanting to check out two days early. Volunteers from as far away as Alabama have arrived to prepare for the big event. And on Saturday morning, more than 2,000 attendees Packed Mission County Park for the wounded Warrior project® (WWP) Carry Forward® 5K, delivered by CSX®.
This was the first year Carry Forward was held in a US military city.
“What an incredible show of support for the warriors and their families at our first Carry Forward in San Antonio,” said WWP CEO Lt. Gen. (at 2.) Mike Linnington. “The community has been United in helping put our mission of honoring and empowering wounded warriors in motion.”
The San Antonio-based financial services organization USAA serves the military community and is an honorary sponsor of Carry Forward.

Participants expressed their support at the event by carrying either a flag, weighing 1 to 100 pounds, or another person. Tracy Uribe, whose husband is a warrior facing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder, carried a 60-pound pack to mimic the weight he carried while on duty.
“Carry Forward is more than just carrying for our wounded warriors with external wounds; it’s for internal mental wounds as well, “Tracy said.
More than 5,000 people collectively supported the warriors and their families at this year’s Carry Forward events in San Diego; Nashville, Tennessee; and San Antonio. WWP will host the fourth Carry Forward event outside its headquarters in Jacksonville, Florida on November 9.
