Well, it won’t take long.

Last night, Conor McGregor took to Twitter to call for a showdown with former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. McGregor seemed serious, even offering to donate his wallet to charity. Edgar was also interested, though he noted that it was up to UFC President Dana white and McGregor to negotiate and turn a potential fight into a reality.

The whites closed it almost immediately. In an interview earlier today with the Boston Herald, white explained why he doesn’t like the fight (transcribed via MMAJunkie): Edgar is two weight classes below him. He had to fight Agamenon sterling. Allgemein fell and was injured. Frankie is coming to the end of his career and he may end up getting himself into the title spot again. Taking Conor’s fight doesn’t make sense.

Unfortunately, there’s still not a ton of information about McGregor’s next fight. White believes McGregor will fight next year, but otherwise he gave no details. However, There are certainly many options.

This seems like a pretty big deal and a good sign for the popularity of Covingtons as Bang is arguably the most popular sports / energy drink hybrid on the market right now. As an athlete and writer, I fully accept the Explosion and heart attack it will eventually give me.

Personally, I think Israel Adesanyas trash talk can grow a bit tedious, but Jon Jones is such an easy target that its working very well right now.

Midnight Music: does Anyone else bitterly remember the time before The Weeknd became one of the world’s biggest pop stars? I don’t necessarily hate his new sound, but man, his music was great in 2011.
