An update on President Trump’s announcement about using Guantanamo Bay to house illegal migrants.

The president’s comments, which were unexpected, advised that he ordering some sort of facility to indefinitely detain other folks who can’t or will not be sent home. This raises huge legal and ethical questions.

The president said: “We have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to have the worst illegal alien criminals that threaten the American people. Some are so bad that we do not even accept as true with the countries to maintain them, because we do not need to return.

However, since then, the new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has given some clarity, which seems to provide another plan than that defined through Trump.

Speaking in Fox News, Hegseth said: “We need to keep them in intermediate illegal and criminals. Guantanamo Bay is a better place.  

“I served from 2004 to 2005. The Americans think of gitm as the photographs you see on your screen: detention comforts with other people from the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.  

“The other part of Guantanamo Bay is a naval station where it has long been for decades, a mission of that naval station is to provide for migrants and refugees and resettlement.

“This is a temporary transit which is already the mission of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, where we can plus up thousands and tens of thousands, if necessary, to humanely move illegals out of our country where they do not belong, back to the countries where they came from, in proper process.”

Rather other from the president’s plan.

The official memorandum on the opening of a detention at Guantanamo Bay has been signed through Donald Trump.

The memo instructs the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security to “take all appropriate steps” to expand the medium to “full capacity. “

This memorandum is to avoid the invasion of the borders, dismantle the thief’s posters and repair national sovereignty, “the document said.

Earlier, Trump said he was directing the opening of a detention centre in Cuba to hold up to 30,000 migrants in the US.

The announcement reached after Trump promised that his management would lead the greatest mass deportation effort in the history of the United States.

It’s the site of a notorious US military prison where detainees were taken and held after the September 11 attacks.

It has become synonymous with the US “war on terror”, with CIA rendition, with torture and with orange jumpsuits.

Beyond the criminal (who only has 15 detainees), the houses a U. S. naval base and a small migrant detention in between, used for the moment to sustain migrants who are intercepted at sea as they seek to succeed in the United States.

President Trump’s announcement that he has ordered the Department of Defense to prepare “Gitmo,” as it is known, to space out many more migrants is unexpected.

30,000 beds constitute a colossal installation.  

It is not yet transparent if the migrants that are maintained here will be the ones that are intercepted or those who are detained in the United States to be deported.

The numbers of migrants currently crossing into the US are very low and the numbers being rounded up are high – this gives an indication of who could be housed there.

By achieving its commitment to commitment to mass deportation, the White House will probably face demanding logistics situations with detention facilities.

Guantanamo’s optics for the shelter deported migrants strongly reflects Trump’s difficult policies.

Trump made the announcement before signing the Laken Riley Act.

Lately there are 15 detainees in the Bay of Guantanamo, to the United States Department of Defense.

The detention center at Guantanamo Bay was created in 2002 through the president at the time, George W Bush, to hold suspected foreign militants after the attacks of September 11, 2001.

But the migrant agreement is separate from detention at the base.

On Tuesday, the US military said that it would allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement to detain migrants at Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado.

“This is a very vital law — it’s anything that Democrats and Republicans bought. “
