Todd Phillips ‘ Joker posted an outstanding £ 9.7 m in its second weekend, with a drop of just 22% on the best-of-all comic-inspired film in 2019.
Playing in 677 locations (on airts of 668 last weekend), the film took in an average of £ 14,507, which would have been a great average for the first weekend, and even more impressive for the second session.
It has already reached the £ 30 million mark and is the seventh highest-grossing title of the year, with Aladdin (37.2 million euros), spider-Man: Far from home (37.3 million euros) and captain Marvel (39.5 m) within its sights.
Its second weekend spend was noticeably better than fellow 2019 comics titles Alita: Battle Angel( -56%); Captain marvel (-48%); Shazam! (-47%); Avengers: Endgame (-67%); and spider-Man: Far from home (-69%).
It will surely end up like Warner Bros. high earnings of the year.
It: Chapter two added £ 117,000 for £ 18.8 m; while Goldfinch is slipping out of cinemas after just three weekends, with a 77% drop, adding £ 11,000 to bring its total to £ 627,000.
The animated creatures feature Disgustingly opened to £ 2.1 million at 551 locations, for € 3,904 on average. This is below the openings of 2019 animation Toy Story 4 (13.3 million euros), How to train a dragon: the Hidden world (5.3 m), and pokemon Detective Pikachu (4.9 m).
However, all of these franchises are titles with pre-existing fans. Various comparisons to Wonder Park, which started at £ 822,515; and “Missing link,” which opened to £ 642,050. These results suggest that the assessment of the Disgusting is worthy.
Former number one Downton Abbey is still performing well, dropping 36% and holding the top five spot after five weeks with £ 948,923 at the weekend. That’s up to £ 25.4 million, the ninth highest-grossing title of the year so far.

Ang Lee’s action film Gemini Man starring will Smith started at £ 1.66 million this weekend, with previews bringing it up to £ 1.72 million in total. It had an average of 3,200 pounds – third on the chart behind the Joker and Disgusting.
It is Lee’s third-largest opening in the UK, after 2003’s Hulk (3.5 million euros) and 2012’s Life Of Pi (2.8 million euros).
Dora and the lost city of gold added and 129,000 pounds and is at 6.3 million pounds.
Judy dropped 27% in its second weekend, with £ 1.1 million taking it to £ 4.7 million to date. By comparison, it’s a better second weekend to spend than other musical biopics Rocketman (53%) and Bohemian Rhapsody (40%), although they went from well above the first weekend.
Ad Astra fell 67% in its fourth weekend, from £ 153,827,to £ 5.9 million. It grossed significantly more than the UK gross of all Director James gray’s previous films combined (£3.4 million).
Horror Ready Or Not fell 70%, taking 75,684 euros for a 1.9 million Euro total.
Hustlers continues to rustle up cash for the fifth slot of the weekend, dropping 39% from £ 359,343 taking it to a £ 6.9 million cume.
Event film specialists Trafalgar screened Puccini’s Turandot – Met Opera 2019 on Saturday 12, and its £ 232,527 that day was the sixth-highest gross. It took 241,053 euros, including encore screenings that continue this week.

The summer disney games roll on, with the Lion King dropping 57%, taking £ 160,000 for £ 75.5 million, and Toy Story 4 falling 46% from £ 132,000, bringing it to £ 65.9 million. Next up is Maleficent: Mistress of evil, opening wide next weekend.
Chris Morris ‘ second directorial feature The Day Shall Come started at £ 169,897 from 173 locations, for a low of £ 787. That’s well down on the £ 598,359 start of his first film Four Lions in 2010, which hit a great 5,292 sites on average from just 115 locations.
Angry Birds Movie 2 added £ 82,000 and is on £ 5.5 m, while Quentin Tarantino once… In Hollywood put on £ 37,000 for £ 21.3 million.
Lulu Wang’s Farewell farewell added £ 46,448 on its fourth weekend to take it to £ 751,209. Barring a late surge, it will lag behind the £ 1m mark, but it still represents a strong score for the low-budget Sundance title.
Encore screenings Of screen star Tomorrow 2014 Phoebe Waller-bridge’s one woman show Fleabag continue to make good money, adding £ 39,365 last weekend to reach £ 3.8 million in total.
The directorial debut of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Farming opened at 21,994 euros from 36 locations, an average of 611 euros.
Rambo: Last blood added 43,824 euros for 2.8 million euros; while angel fell closes with 11,945 pounds, taking it to 7.5 million pounds.
Ali Jaberansari’s 2018 London film festival title Tehran: City of love opened to £ 7,230 from seven locations, a decent £ 1,033 on average for a small title.
Billy Connolly’s film release event-the Sex life of bandages, the popular Scottish comedian’s latest stand-up tour, took £ 405,458 on Thursday 10. Encore screenings have brought it up to £ 435,442, with some sites yet to report.
