Rome, October 16 (IANS/AKI) Italy wants to hold a planned UN summit on food systems in 2021, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said Wednesday in a speech at the UN Food and agriculture organization headquarters here.
“I am very proud to confirm today that Italy will be honoured to host this important summit,” Conte said in his address on world food day.
“The summit provides governments and international organizations with a unique opportunity to achieve the joint goals of the 2030 Agenda,” he said, referring to the UN’s ambitious set of sustainable development Goals.
Italy’s presidency of the G20 in 2012 will provide “an extraordinary opportunity for food security and food quality at the centre of the international agenda,” Conte stressed.
