Indiana state trooper saves 75-year-old woman choking on food

An Indiana state police trooper has been praised for rescuing a 75-year-old woman who was choking in a restaurant.

According to Indiana state police, senior trooper Scott Keegan stopped by the Hacienda Vieja restaurant in Pendleton, Indiana, on Tuesday for lunch.

As Keegan ate, he noticed an elderly woman approaching the staff. He gestured toward Keegan, knowing he was an Indiana state trooper. Keegan immediately began abdominal traction on the woman, clearing her airway.

Keegan said he credits his annual first aid and Tac-Med training for giving him the skills needed to save the woman.

“I’m glad the staff knew who I was and knew I could help. I am grateful that I was able to help, ‘ said Keegan.
