The Rising leaders program of the Qatar leadership Center (CLC) sent its participants on a week-long study trip to Japan to interact with some of the country’s most prominent corporations in collaboration with Itochu Corp in Japan, which is one of the largest Japanese companies and has strong economic ties with major energy companies in Qatar.
They also met with experts to find out how the country is cultivating a world-renowned drive for product innovation and business practices.
“Japan’s economy is one of the strongest in the world, gaining a reputation as the birthplace of innovative technologies and revolutionary business practices that have pushed its corporations to stand out on the world stage,” said Dr. Ali J al-Kubaishi, acting managing Director at KLK.
“This unique environment is a perfect example that our Rising leaders program participants can analyze, particularly how they can foster innovation at all levels of the organization.”
In addition, they engaged in knowledge sharing with the leaders of these companies, sharing ideas they received from the Qatar market.
To gain insight into the private sector and the most important modern manufacturing practices, participants visited Toyota Motor Corporation headquarters in Nagoya, where they visited one of the manufacturing facilities and watched as the automotive company developed inventive solutions to improve productivity and reduce waste on the production line.
In the government sector, they have been guided around the OTA incineration plant to explore how creative problem-solving principles can continue to be used to expand the delivery of critical public services.
Participants also had the opportunity to communicate with several scientific partners of Japan and prominent experts in the field of industry and trade.
Dr. Florian Kohlbacher, Director of the Economist Corporate network, North Asia, contextualized Japan’s post-war economic growth for participants, exploring how the country recovered from the devastation of world war II.
Participants also visited Fujitsu’s headquarters in Tokyo, where they attended a lecture on artificial intelligence, the evolution of supercomputers, and Fujitsu’s role in the 2020 summer Olympics.
Participants also visited the Edo-Tokyo Museum, where they delved into Japanese history and culture to ponder how they affect the country’s attitude to innovation.
In a separate lecture, Ken Kusonoki, a Professor at Hitotsubashi University, spoke about how innovation can contribute to development in the workplace, which outlines how you can develop a problem-solving environment from leadership positions.
They also contacted local academic partners, including Hitotsubashi University, where the group participated in a joint session and mingled with the University’s MBA students to share knowledge in knowledge creation and exchange.
