ATHENS, Greece – Greece, Germany and five European Union countries on Tuesday brought a vaccination certificate formula for travelers, weeks before the program launches July 1 in the 27-country bloc.
Other countries that moved forward were Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Croatia and Poland, according to the European Commission.
Greece, which relies heavily on tourism, has pushed for the recognised certificate using a QR code with complex security features. Certificates are issued to fully vaccinated people, as well as to those who have already contracted the virus and have developed antibodies, and to others. who have undergone a PCR check in the last 72 hours.
The documents will have virtual and paper forms, will be free of charge, distributed in the national language plus English and will be valid in all countries of the bloc.
“EU citizens are looking ahead to travel again, and they must do so safely. Having an EU certificate is a step on the road,” said EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides.
Greece’s virtual governance minister, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, said it would open up less difficult within the EU as countries adopt the new verification standard.
“What will happen is that countries will avoid issuing certificates through their own conference and adopt the joint conference. This will simplify things considerably, because you can believe the number of bilateral agreements that would otherwise have to be drafted,” he added. Pierrakakis told personal television Skai.
Kyriakides said that in the coming weeks, all EU countries will have to “completely finalize their national formulas for issuing, storing and verifying certificates, so that the formula works in time for the holiday season. “
Countries will be able to upload more vaccines to their individual access list, adding those that have not been officially approved for use in the EU.
The European Commission believes that other vaccinated people no longer have to be tested or quarantined, regardless of where they leave or destination, from 14 days after receiving their injection for the time being.
However, the Member States have still supported this recommendation.
