Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin on Wednesday checked out President Donald trump’s latest statements that U.S. troops are safe and that Syria is “protecting the Kurds” during a live report. Griffin also accused the President of pushing the “Turkish thesis” in a tweet earlier today.
Trump on Wednesday defended his decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Northern Syria and said Turkish offensives against U.S.-linked Kurdish forces in the area “have nothing to do with us.”
“Our soldiers are from there. Our soldiers are perfectly safe. They must work everything out, ” the President added. “Syria protects the Kurds, it’s good. And by the way, every player hates ISIS.”
“Syria is not protecting the Kurds, and American troops are not safe yet,” Griffin said after trump’s speech. “The President just ordered 2,000 American troops into Saudi Arabia.”
She continued: “I am told that American forces in Syria are still rushing to protect classified materials and valuable military equipment as Turkish military and Russian-backed forces advance towards these abandoned American bases and in some cases capture US outposts. I had to leave hastily after the President’s decision.”
Griffin said senior U.S. Department of defense officials have shown her that we are experiencing a ” deliberate phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria.”
“They will be moved elsewhere in the middle East,” she explained. “The us military is destroying patrol bases in Northern Syria and will retreat to one base in North-Eastern Syria, from which they will be withdrawn by air. This is an extremely dangerous evacuation, which, according to the military commanders, is being carried out.”
A Fox News reporter also took to Twitter on Wednesday to rebuke more statements made by trump. Speaking to reporters, the President suggested that the Kurdish workers party, otherwise known as the PKK terrorist group, is “probably worse at terrorism, more of a terror threat in many ways than ISIS.”
“No national security adviser to the President would agree with this statement, “Griffin tweeted, deeming the President’s statement a”Turkish thesis.”
President Trump:?? The PKK (Kurds) pose a greater threat than ISIS. ? None of the presidential adviser on national security will not agree with this statement. The Turkish thesis.

Griffin is right to report that trump’s remarks do not match the facts. Although the PKK is considered a neo-Marxist terrorist group, their goal is to establish a Kurdish state in parts of Turkey and Northern Syria, while the Islamic state seeks to build a global Caliphate.
Trump has faced significant bipartisan, including from some of his usually staunch GOP supporters, over his administration’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from areas in Northern Syria.
“I firmly believe that if President trump continues to make such statements, it will be a disaster worse than President Obama’s decision to leave Iraq,” Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted today.
