Earlier this month, Chick-fil-A took the brand global from their first UK location. But the British Outpost will be closed due to protests over the company’s political views.
According to the BBC, LGBT rights campaigners have called for a boycott of the new branch located in the Oracle shopping centre in reading, England. The Mall told the BBC they would not be renewing Chick-fil-A’s lease: “We are always looking to introduce new concepts to our customers, however, we have decided on this occasion that the right thing to do is to allow only Chick-fil-A to trade with us for the initial six-month pilot period and not to renew the lease further.”
In 2017, Think Progress reported that Chick-fil-A donated to organizations that support discriminatory messages. The brotherhood of Christian athletes, Paul Anderson Youth home, and the salvation Army are Chick-fil-A organizations helped Fund, all of which are known for their anti-LGBT messages.
This is not the first time the company’s controversial views have been questioned. In March this year, a Chick-fil-A location in San Antonio, Texas, was banned from opening for the same reason.
