E-cigarette giant Juul suspends sales of all fruit flavors ahead of looming U.S. ban – CNBC

Juul is immediately suspending sales of popular fruit flavored e-cigarettes ahead of a trump administration policy that is expected to remove all flavored e-cigarettes from the market, the company said Thursday.

Juul last year stopped the atomization of e-cigarettes in retail stores amid pressure from the food and drug Administration. Customers could only get flavors of cream, mango, fruit, cucumber on their age-limited website.

Trump administration officials said they would remove all flavored pods, including mint and menthol, leaving only e-cigarettes with flavored tobacco products on the market. Juul said it will continue to sell its mint and menthol nicotine pods in the meantime. The company said its new policy takes effect immediately.

“We continue to review our policies and practices ahead of the FDA guidance review and have not made any final decisions,” Juul spokesman Austin Finan said in a statement. “We refrain from lobbying the administration on its draft guide, and will fully support and comply with the final policy when it takes effect.”

Amid a teen vaping epidemic and an outbreak of deadly vaping-related lung disease, the trump administration last month said it was willing to remove all flavored e-cigarettes from the market until the FDA recounts them and authorizes them to return to shelves. Administration officials at the time said the plan would be released within weeks. They still don’t produce one.

CORRECTION: This article has been updated to correct that the trump administration plans to remove mint and menthol flavors from the market.
