Chinese President XI Jinping will meet with Prime Minister modi on October 11-12 in Chennai for a second informal summit

Chinese President XI Jinping will meet Prime Minister Narendra modi in Chennai on Friday for the second informal summit between the two leaders after Wuhan last year.

“The upcoming informal summit in Chennai will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to continue discussing common issues of bilateral, regional and global importance and exchange views on deepening the closer development of the India-China partnership,” the Chinese foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Prime Minister modi and President XI held their first informal summit in Wuhan, China, on April 27-28 last year.

This year’s meeting is expected to take place in Mamallapuram, a 7th-century cultural heritage site located 56 km from Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai.

Last week, Deputy Minister in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of China and a former envoy to India Luo Jiahui met with the Minister of foreign Affairs Vijay Gokhale to discuss preparations for the summit in Chennai.

President XI is likely to arrive in Chennai on the afternoon of October 11. Modi and XI will visit heritage structures around Mamallapuram that were built by the Pallava dynasty. The leaders will take part in a cultural program, followed by a dinner at the temple on the shore.
