China and Kiribati had ties until 2003, when Tarawa established relations with Taipei, resulting in China severing diplomatic relations.
Taiwan’s former Ambassador to Kiribati, Abraham Chu, told Taiwan’s Central news Agency over the weekend that China had never completely removed the tracking stations in Kiribati and that it “could return at any time.”
