Amazon is due to launch US network drama Treadstone, from the makers of the Bourne franchise, worldwide in January.
The SVOD service will launch the series in more than 200 out-of-state territories in the new year following its debut on the NBCU-supported cable network on October 15.
This comes after the project went straight into series, after initially being announced as a pilot order, thanks to an international distribution deal between UCP and Amazon, similar to the arrangement that UCP had with Netflix on Nightflyers.
The series explores the origin story and modern-day actions of a notorious secret program that uses a behavior-altering Protocol to turn recruits into near-superhuman killers. The first season of Treadstone follows sleeping agents around the world as they are mysteriously awakened to resume their deadly missions.
The main roles in the series were played by Jeremy Irvine, Tracy Ificher, Omar Metwally, Brian Smith, Hye Joo Han, Gabrielle Scharnicki, Emilia Shele and Michelle Forbes. Treadstone is produced by UCP and designed by Tim Kring, who also produces the series with Ben Smith
“Bourne films are popular with our customers around the world, and it’s exciting to see franchises move to television with Treadstone,” said brad Beale, Vice President of World Wide Content Licensing for Prime video. “Prime members love shows with action and intrigue like Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and our latest anti-super hero hit Boys, and we know tredstone will be another great addition to Prime video in 2020.”
